ETIAS requirements
Before applying for ETIAS, make sure you meet the eligibility conditions and have everything you need. Here is the complete checklist.
Eligibility conditions
- You are a citizen of a visa-exempt country (see the Countries page).
- You are travelling for tourism, business, transit or a short visit.
- Your stay is no longer than 90 days within any 180-day period.
- You hold a valid, machine-readable passport (biometric where applicable).
Your passport
Your passport is at the centre of your ETIAS. Make sure it meets these conditions before you apply:
- Valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Europe.
- Issued within the last 10 years.
- The same passport must be used to apply and to travel — ETIAS is linked to it.
What you will need to apply
A valid passport
Your travel document details, exactly as printed on the passport.
A valid email address
Your authorisation and updates are sent electronically by email.
A payment method
To pay the official government fee for adult applicants.
Trip & background details
Basic personal, contact and travel information, plus a few security questions.

- • Each traveller needs their own ETIAS, including children.
- • Most applications are approved quickly, but apply well before you travel in case extra checks are needed.
